Hey there, mama. Motherhood is a beautiful, wild ride isn’t it?! It’s an incredible journey filled with so much love and joy, but I understand how easy it is to feel disconnected from yourself amidst the whirlwind of new responsibilities and emotions that come with motherhood. It’s common to prioritize your baby’s needs above your own, leaving little time or energy for the activities and passions that once defined you.

This is one of the most common challenges we hear from the new moms we work with. “I love my baby, but man I miss who I was before and I miss my alone time, and…this makes me feel so guilty.”  You might also be feeling like you have no idea who you are anymore. We get it cause we’ve been there too. But here’s the thing, reconnecting and rediscovering who you are now as a mom (and outside of motherhood) is crucial to you showing up as the mom you want to be!

That’s why I’ve put together these tips to help you navigate this transformative time with a little more ease and a lot more self-discovery. From rediscovering old hobbies to prioritizing "me time," these practices are designed to support your well-being and help you reconnect with the person you were before becoming a mom.

Tip 1: Try out a new hobby/class or revisit an old one. Remember those pre-baby passions? Whether it was painting, dancing, or something entirely different, now’s the time to dust off those interests. Reconnecting with what once brought you joy can reignite that spark of creativity and fulfillment.

Tip 2: Spend time with friends that make you feel good. Friendship is so important, especially during this chapter of life. Plan a coffee date or a leisurely stroll with those who uplift and understand you—people who can share in both the joys and challenges of being a new mom.

Tip 3: Find things that feel like play again. Sometimes, it’s the simple pleasures that bring the most joy. Whether it’s playing board games, taking a peaceful walk, or exploring creative activities with your baby, embrace those moments of playfulness.

Tip 4: Prioritize "me time." Self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Schedule moments just for you, whether it’s reading a book, enjoying a quiet bath, or simply taking a solo walk. Recognize your needs and find ways to meet them, guilt-free.

Tip 5: Give yourself permission to acknowledge the challenges. It’s okay to find this journey tough at times. Recognize that balancing your needs with your baby’s is a learning process. Don’t hesitate to lean on your support system—partner, family, friends—for help when you need it.

Tip 6: Be flexible with your "me time." Self-care doesn’t always mean alone time. Embrace the fluidity of it by being open to nurturing yourself through shared experiences with loved ones, including your baby and partner.

Tip 7: Remember that "me time" evolves with your baby. As your baby grows, so will your opportunities for self-care. Be open to adjusting your routines and exploring new ways to prioritize yourself as your family dynamic shifts.

Remember, taking care of yourself isn’t just beneficial for your own well-being—it’s crucial for nurturing healthy relationships with your partner and baby. By incorporating these tips into your daily life and staying attuned to your needs, you’ll not only rediscover yourself but also set a positive example for your growing family. You deserve moments of joy, relaxation, and self-discovery amidst the beautiful chaos of motherhood. Here’s to finding yourself again—bit by bit, day by day.
